Milne, Alan Alexander (1929) ‘The Christopher Robin Story Book’, US signed limited edition

Alexander Alan Milne (1929) ‘The Christopher Robin Story Book‘, US large paper edition, limited to 350 copies, this being number 6, bublished by Dutton. Signed by both, author A.A. Milne and illusrator Ernest H. Shepard. Quarter-bound light green silk cloth over illustrated paper boards. Green endpapers as called for.

Condition: a near fine copy in a very good original box. The original acetate protector is not present. The boards are clean; the light green display light ageing spots. Internally clean without previous owners’ scribbles of any sorts. The paper is still uncut and unopened; thus the volume is unread. The original box has slight rubbing as pictured and has light shelf wear, but otherwise in very good condition.

After ‘The House at Pooh Corner’ (1928) and the colossal success of the four seminal ‘Winnie-the-Pooh’ books, Milne vouched to never write another Winnie book, poartly because Christopher Robin grew up, and partly because his son was exposed to a lot of stress and public attention caused by the stories. ‘The Christopher Robin Story’ book collates the best verses from ‘When We Were Very Young’ (1924) and ‘Now We Are Six’ (1927), and the best prose from ‘Winnie-the-Pooh’ (1926) and ‘The House at Pooh Corner’ (1928). Only an American signed limited edition was published by Dutton with no issue of a limited eidtion by Milne’s publisher Methuen in Britain.
