Vladimir Vladimirovich Nabokov (1955) ‘Lolita‘, true first edition, published in two volumes by the Olympia Press in France. First issue paperback originals with the 900 Francs price on both volumes as called for. No evidence of any price stickers. In addition, an original typed letter by Nabokov and signed by him.

Condition of the books: very good plus. No previous owners’ scribbles inside the books, no bookplates, no stamps. The 900 Francs price is NOT crossed out as sometimes encountered; no evidence of price sticker presence. Front wrap of volume one and two have a corner crease as shown. Nice green original colour. The spines have some rubbing to the edges and toning.

The letter: In near fine condition. Typed letter, signed ‘Vladimir Nabokov’, 1 page, 4to, Montreux-Palace Hotel, Switzerland, September 12, 1975, in English with pen signature and inscriptions in a different hand, to Uitgeverij De Arbeiderspers of Amsterdam regarding Nabokov’s representation and dispersal of royalties for his works sold in the Netherlands.

Provenance of the letter: from the estate of J.D. McClatchy (1945-2018), American poet, librettist, literary critic, and former president of The American Academy of Arts and Letters.
