Buchan, John (1915) ‘The Thirty-Nine Steps’, UK first edition
John Buchan (1915) ‘The Thirty-Nine Steps‘, UK first edition, first issue, published by Blackwood.
Condition: acceptable to good. The major issue is the spine which is plat at the back as shown. Neat contemporary signature in black in with Christmas 1915 added on the ffep. Page edges browned as usual due to the cheap war economy paper stock used at the time. Hard to find in good condition and super scarce with the original dust jacket.
‘The Thirty-Nine Steps’ is the first book in Buchan’s ‘Richard Hannay’ series. It was immortalised by the 1935 Alfred Hitchcock film adaptation. Filmed three more times in 1959, 1978 and in 2008. The book has remained very popular with readers to date.
