Orwell, George (1945) ‘Animal Farm’, UK first edition in the original first state dust jacket

George Orwell (1945) ‘Animal Farm‘, UK first edition, first printing, published by Secker & Warburg, in the original, unrestored first state dust jacket.

Condition: the actual book is in very good condition with one neat and small previous owner’s name on the ffep as shown. The boards are clean with a little shelf wear. The spine tips are faded corresponding to the lost sections of the dust jacket. The dust jacket is NOT restored and it is the original first state jacket with searchlight books in red on the reverse side (there is also a blue variant). It is not price clipped showing the 6s. price as called for. Usual rubbing to folds, some soiling to panels, one tear to back panel, spine tip have a little loss, and the rear spine fold is split about half way from the bottom up. The flaps are clean and nice. Not the best specimen of the dust jacket we have seen, but it is the original first state dust jacket without any restoration whatsoever. Fair value.

‘Animal Farm’, a landmark book of dystopian fiction. Its publication was delayed since the Allies needed Stalin in the war effort against the Nazis and the UK did not want to offend Uncle Joe with this mocking satire of Soviet authoritarian rule.
