Signed and inscribed by the author in the year of publication: “To Akis and Franco | In exile, but happy, I hope! | Louis de Bernières | Sept. 1994

Condition: near fine. The boards are clean with just a triffle of shelf wear to the bottom edge. The paper is toned commensurate with age. The dust jacket is NOT price cliped with a Canadian price sticker over it. This can be removed with a damp cloth but best to leave it.

The book won the 1995 Commonwealth Writers’ Prize, and achieved 19th place in the Big Read poll of Britain’s most loved novels.

Famously filmed in 2001 starring Nicholas Cage, Penelope Cruz, John Hurt and Christian Bale. The movie put the love story centre stage whilst avoiding the many political complexities of WWII. The author has repeatedly praised the film music in interviews.
