John Ronald Reuel Tolkien; Eric Valentine Gordon (1925) ‘Sir Gawain and the Green Knight‘, UK first edition, first printing, published by Oxford University Press. With the correct first issue dust jacket showing the correct April 1925 date at the rear panel as called for. One of only 2,500 copies printed. The vast majority of the 1925 copies have not survived the passage of time especially with the original dust jacket.

Condition: a near fine copy. The book is complete with all fragile tissue guards protecting the plates present. Errata slip present. No bookplates, no previous owner’s names, no stamps. Slight fading to the spine. A few foxing spots here and there but nothing excessive. A few neat annotations in pencil by a former student of the text. This is common as this was a textbook used by Tolkien during his professorship at Oxford. The original dust jacket has the typical toning to the spine. It has just slight edge wear as shown. Remarkably no foxing to the dust jackte and quite clean. A beautiful copy hard to find in such condition.
