Abercrombie, Joe (2006-08) ‘The First Law’ trilogy (The Blade Itself; Before They Are Hanged; Last Argument of Kings), UK signed first edition set

Joe Abercrombie (2006-08) ‘The First Law‘ trilogy. UK first editions, first printings, published by Gollancz. All three volumes are signed by the author on the respective title pages.

The set consists of:

  • The Blade Itself (2006): UK first edition, first printing. Signed and dated 04/05/06 (the actual publication date) by the author on the title page.
  • Before They Are Hanged (2007): UK first edition, first printing. Signed, dated 8/3/07 (a week before publication date) and lined (‘Heads on spikes. Never goes out of fashion’) by the author on the title page.
  • Last Argument of Kings (2008): UK first edition, first printing. Signed, dated 20/03/08 (publication date) and lined (‘Why do I do this? Why?’) by the author on the title page.

Condition: a fine set. No previous owner’s names, no scribbles, no bookplates, no stamps. Minimal shelf wear. The dust jacket are all complete with no tears, not price clipped. ‘Last Argument of Kings’ has a Forbidden Planet attached on the front panel as shown. This could be removed but we recommend leaving it untouched.

A seminal fantasy series by the perhaps leading British fantasy writer. A gritty, smart tale which consciously does not try to immitate Tolkien like so many other fantasy writers do.
