King, Stephen (1974) ‘Carrie’, US signed and inscribed first edition association copy

Stephen King (1974) ‘Carrie‘, US first edition, first printing, published by Doubleday. With ‘First Edition’ on the copyright page, and ‘P6’ on the margin of the last page as called for. Signed and inscribed by the author to American magazine editor, literary agent and collector of genre fiction Forrest Ackermann on the first blank page: “For Forrest Ackermann – | with best wishes – | Stephen King | 9/9/1979”. Housed in a stylish solander case which is quarter bound leather with marbled perp on the cover. With beautiful embossing on the spine as shown.

Provenance: Forrest Ackermann (1916-2008) was the literary agent of some great science-fiction writers including Ray Bradbury, Isaac Asimov, L. Ron Hubbard, A.E. Van Vogt and others. He has also edited various genre fiction anthologies, founded and edited a magazine and wrote numerous short stories, and non-fiction books about sci-fi. He was also an avid collector of sci-fi, fantasy and horror first editions, and film memorabilia. He was much loved by fans, and received the Bram Stoker Award for Life Achievement, as well as a Hugo Award in 1953 for being the no 1 fan personality. A great association.

Condition: a near fine book in like dust jacket. There are two small flaws to the book. The black front free endpaper shows evidence of something being erased to the top left and there is a x written in biro to the top corner as shown. The top page block edges have a few faint foxing sprinkles. The rest of the book is gorgeous. It is square and tight, clean throughout, there is no rubbing to the cloth boards with the lettering on the spine vibrant and NOT rubbed out. The dust jacket is NOT clipped showing the correct USD 5.95 price. No tears, no fading, no foxing. Just tiny rubbing to the folds as shown. Overall a really nice specimen of an increasingly hard to find book in good condition. The beautiful King inscription in his old hand with the association makes up for the small condition flaws.

Stephen King’s first published novel with a print run of 30,000 copies in hardback.
