Tolkien, J.R.R. (1946) ‘The Hobbit’, UK first edition, fourth impression in the original dust jacket
John Ronald Reuel Tolkien (1946) ‘The Hobbit‘, UK first edition, fourth impression, published by George Allen and Unwin. With the original fourth impression dust jacket.
Condition: a very good to near fine book in a very good and unrestored dust jacket. There are no previous owner’s names, no bookplates and no stamps inside the book. The boards are vibrant in colour and unfaded. The green top stain is present. The page block edges show faint spotting. Also present are a few yellowish spots on the prelims. Text is internally clean. The original dust jacket is totally unrestored. It displays the price of 7s 6d net as called for as well as the fourth impression line on the front flap. As usual the spine is slightly toned. There is a larger chip to the top of the spine as well as a few tears. Below ‘Tolkien’ on the spine there are two tears. We have listed plenty of images of the dust jacket to showcase all flaws.
Printed on Economy War Standard paper it is hard to find decent copies of this impression, especially with the original dust jacket which has not been restored.
