Foster Wallace, David (1987) ‘The Broom of the System‘, US uncorrected proof
David Foster Wallace (1987) ‘The Broom of the System‘, US uncorrected proof, published by Viking. Not to be confused with the Advance Reading copy which is far more common and already had the design of the final dust jacket on the front cover. As the publisher’s memorandum reveals this proof was printed before July 1986.
Condition: near fine. Light fading to spine, bumping to spine bottom, traces of faint foxing to text.block edges. Pages clean and unblemished.
The rare hardback first edition of ‘Broom’ had an exceptionally low print run of 1,300 copies only. Very few uncorrectd proofs have been printed and fewer still have survived the passage of time, especially in this beautiful condition. The author’s first novel which was followed by his masterpiece ‘Infinite Jest’. A cult author who sadly committed suicide and left this world too early. He was an important voice of the so-called ‘Generation X’ and criticised consumerism, capitalism and the general shallow way of life.
