Tolkien, J.R.R. (1963) ‘The Lord of the Rings’, UK deluxe edition

John Ronald Reuel Tolkien (1963) ‘The Lord of the Rings‘, UK deluxe edition, published by George Allen & Unwin. One of only 1,000 sets or less produced. Housed in a bespoke buckram slipcase with dividers between the individual volumes, and the beautiful Tolkien monogram stamped in gild.

Condition: a near fine set with each volume gracing the tasteful bookplate of the previous owner on the front pastedown. Maps present at the rear. A few foxing spots present but internally very clean and most likely unread. As usual The Two Towers shows a slightly paler black colour compared to the other two volumes. This is resulting from a different buckram grain which was used for the binding rather than a flaw as is constantly referred to by some booksellers. Originally the set was published with a paper slipcase. This is not present here since we provide a sturdier and more classy buckram slipcase as shown.
