Milne, A.A. (1926) ‘Winnie-the-Pooh’, UK signed first deluxe edition
Alan Alexander Milne (1926) ‘Winnie-the-Pooh’, UK first deluxe edition, first printing, published by Methuen. Signed and dated 1926 by illustrator Ernest H. Shepard on the title page.
Condition: fine, still in its original card board box and with the original glassine dust jacket. The book is unread, very clean and as new. Silk ribbon mark present, all page block edges gilded. No rubbing to the leather binding. Spine like new with the gilding all vibrant and not rubbed out. The book has not been handled sitting in its box for decades. The original glassine dust jacket with a few small ships to the top (the glassine jackets tend to stiffen and crumble over time). The original paper box shows signs of natural ageing.
The print run was 3,000 copies divided into three colours of the leather binding: red, green, and blue. This is the green leather variant which many prefer to the other two colours as green was also the colour of the first trade edition. One of 1,000 copies of which perhaps a handful exist in this beautiful condition. In addition it signed by the iconic illustrator Ernest Shepard without whom Pooh is unimaginable.
