Gorbachev, Mikhail (1996) ‘Memoirs’, signed and inscribed US first edition

Mikail Gorbachev (1996) ‘Memoirs‘, SIGNED and INSCRIBED first editions and first printing, published by Doubleday in the US.

The inscription, translated, reads something like “A present from me as a memento, there is a lot of interest here [signature]“.

Provenance: obtained from an estate auction in Florida where many politicians retire. It is safe to assume that Gorbachev gave the book as gift to someone he knew.
Condition: very good: book is clean with a crease to the spine. Dust jacket is not price clipped, it has a 5cm tear to the bottom of the fold.
A unique item, and one of very few signed US first editions; very special with such a lengthy inscription from one of the defining politicians of the 20th century. Unfortunately, in Russia Mikhail is being blamed for dismantling the Soviet Union which, however, was already doomed when Gorbachev took over. The world should be thankful that the fall of the Iron Curtain occurred relatively peacefully.
