Clive Staples (C.S.) Lewis (1950-56) ‘The Chronicles of Narnia‘, the complete set. All seven volumes are UK first editions, first printings with the correct first issue dust jackets. An amazing collection of one of the most important, most influential and iconic children and fantasy literature books of the 20th c. only rivaled by Lewis’s contemporary J.R.R. Tolkien. Highly coveted and rarely offered as a complete set. The set consists of:
1) ‘The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe‘ (1950): in near fine condition. One neat previous owner’s name on the front free endpaper. No bookplates, no stamps. Pages are clean. Slight lean; the boards are NOT faded as often seen but retain their original light green colour. Only the spine shows the usual offsetting from the dust jacket art as shown. This is common. The dust jacket is the original first impression wrapper displaying the correct first issue 8s 6d net price.
2) ‘Prince Caspian – The Return to Narnia‘ (1951): in near fine condition in like dust jacket. One neat previous owner’s name on the ffep, no bookplates, no stamps. Clean pages throughout. Boards clean with the deep blue colour retained. The dust jacket is not price clipped showing the correct 10s 6d net price.
3) ‘The Voyage of the Dawn Treader‘ (1952): in near fine condition. No previous owners’ inscriptions of any sorts. Boards retain the original pale blue colour. The dust jacket is NOT price clipped and the correct first issue jacket (no mentioning of later impressions on front flap; correct ads of the two previous titles on the rear panel).
4) ‘The Silver Chair‘ (1953): in near fine condition in like dust jacket. One neat previous owner’s name ot the ffep. Clean throughout. The scarce original dust jacket is NOT price clipped and is first issue with no indication of reprints on the front flap and correct ads of the three previous Narnia titles on the rear panel.
5) The Horse and His Boy‘ (1954): in near fine condition in like dust jacket. No previous owner’s names. Internally clean. The boards have retained their original grey colours. The dust jacket is not price clipped, first issue
6) ‘The Magician’s Nephew‘ (1955): in fine condition in near fine dust jacket. Pages and boards absolutely clean. The first issue dust jacket is not price clipped.
7) ‘The Last Battle‘ (1956): in near fine condition. No previous owners’ scribbles of any sorts.
All dust jackets with light restoration work meaning the closing of small tears and filling of small chips to the edges and now all present in near fine condition. The buyer may rest assured that this has been done by the leading British restoration expert.
