Thomas Stearns Eliot (1940-1942) ‘Four Quartets‘, first edition, first printings, published by Faber in the UK. The set consists of ‘Burnt Norton‘, ‘East Coker‘, The Dry Salvages‘, and ‘Little Gidding‘. Later published as a collected volume ‘Four Quartets’ in 1943. In addition, ‘The Dry Salvages’ as it was printed in the ‘The New English Weekly’ which published the poem on 27 February 1941 before the publisher Faber.
Condition: near fine with some age related toning to the paper commensurate with age. ‘East Coker’ has a whiff of foxing inside at the margins. Otherwise clean with no previous owners’ inscriptions of any sorts. A beautiful set, scarce as first prints.
T.S. Eliot is the winner of the 1948 Nobel Prize in Literature for his poetry. He regarded the ‘Four Quartets’ as his masterpiece.
