Voltaire (1944) ‘Candide or Optimism’, limited edition with twenty-six illustrations; illustrated by Paul Klee. Published by Pantheon in New York. This edition was limited to 625 copies of which only 50 copies included the separate prints at the back in a folder. This is on of the copies with the prints, although the limitation page does not bear a limitation number. Either the books were not numbered, or this is a publisher’s, review or artist’s copy. Quarter-bound in leather.
Condition: very good with slight age related discolouration to the leather. Slip case has some light fading and minor shelf wear.
Paul Klee (1879-1940) was an influential Swiss-German artist who was influential in the expressionist and surrealist movement. He also did some work for the iconic Bauhaus.
