Kennedy, John F. (1960) ‘The Strategy of Peace’, signed first edition
John F. Kennedy (1960) ‘The Strategy of Peace’, US first edition, later printing, published by Harper & Brothers. SIGNED and Inscribed by Kennedy: ‘To Don with many thanks and best personal regards Jack Kennedy’. This book has been inscribed to a certain Don Mitchell. It seems this must have been inscribed to a supporter of Kennedy in either government or the Democratic Party. Included is also a sheet printed by Congress which deals with Kennedy’s death which supports this claim.
Condition: very good. Free from any further inscriptions. Slightly dusty at top. Otherwise clean. Dust jacket has a few chips and loss at the edges as pictured.
This book is a collection of Kennedy’s Congressional addresses and speeches delivered between 1956 and 1959 and contains topics on Vietnam, China and the Middle East. The book was published during Kennedy’s presidential campaign. One quote from the book: “World peace, like community peace, does not require that each man love his neighbor—it requires only that they live together in mutual tolerance, submitting their disputes to a just and peaceful settlement. And history teaches us that enmities between nations, as between individuals, do not last forever . . .”
A great piece of history by the most iconic and charismatic US president of the 20th century whose handling of the Cuban Missile Crisis, marriage to Jackie, numerous affairs, and his assassination on 22 November 1963 in Dallas added to his fame.
