Asimov, Isaac (1955) ‘The End of Eternity’, US signed first edition

Isaac Asimov (1955) ‘End of Eternity’, US first edition, first printing, published by Doubleday. Signed by Asimov on the title page. An exceptionally  scarce signed first edition that only rarely comes up for sale.

Condition: a good copy in a good dust jacket. There are no previous owners’ scribbles inside, and this is NOT an ex library copy. There is rubbing to the board edges where the thin cloth has rubbed through to the card board board, in particular at the bottom edges (see pictures). The lettering is vibrant on the spine. The dust jacket is first state showing the correct price of USD 2.95. It displays some tears and loss to the top and bottom spine as pictured. Overall a good copy only. However, extremely scarce.

‘The End of Eternity’ was shortlisted for the 1956 Hugo Award and lost to Robert Heinlein’s ‘Double Star’. Asimov later tied the novel into the ‘Foundation’ universe. The book served as basis for numerous films including the most recent ‘The Adjustment Bureau’ (2011).
