Clarke, Arthur C. (1968) ‘2001: A Space Odyssey’, signed first edition from Clarke’s own library
Arthur C. Clarke (1968) ‘2001: A Space Odyssey’, signed US first edition, first printing published by New American Library. This is Arthur’s copy from his personal library. The half title page bears a stamp with his address in Sri Lanka, as well as a relief stamp stating ‘From the Library of Sir Arthur C. Clarke’ with a monolith as well as an Arthur C Clarke Foundation relief stamp. Signed without further inscription to the title page. The book comes with additional ephemera: Arthur’s personal business card; a book plate; photographs as well as a hand signed letter.
Condition: very good with a slight lean, mild page block edge toning, and slight soiling to the board edges. The dust jacket is very good, not price clipped and has some creasing, wrinkling and short tears. Clearly Arthur was not too concerned about condition of his own book, but the provenance more than compensates for this.
A landmark book of science fiction written in conjunction with Stanley Kubrick as a screenplay who filmed this as one of the best science fiction movies of all time.
