The sentence features in the book and refers to the fervent adherents of the three ideologies battling in Greece during WWII whilst the simple love of and for people would cure all the hatred.

Condition: near fine for the most pedantic of judges. Unread, slight discolouration/ ageing to paper. commensurate with age. White and clean boards. A beautiful copy.

The book won the 1995 Commonwealth Writers’ Prize, and achieved 19th place in the Big Read poll of Britain’s most loved novels.

Famously filmed in 2001 starring Nicholas Cage, Penelope Cruz, John Hurt and Christian Bale. The movie put the love story centre stage whilst avoiding the many political complexities of WWII.
