Alexandre Dumas père (2017) ‘The Count of Monte Cristo’, Folio Society limited edition, limited to 500 copies only of which this is no. 6. Signed and numbered by the illustrator Roman Pisarev on an original etching tipped in by hand. Together with a handwritten and signed letter by Dumas. The original letter is loosely laid in and can be kept on the title page as on our photograph. This Folio edition paper is acid free meaning that it will not damage the letter over time.

Condition: The book is like new with no issues and no previous owners’ book plates or inscriptions. The letter, written around 1864, is in excellent condition with three folds which would had been done to fit it into an envelope. Slights creases and little signed of ageing (yellowing) to the edges.

  • 1088 pages typeset in Monotype Ehrhardt with Goudy Text, Lombardic Capitals and Victoria Titling for display with a frontispiece and 23 integrated black and white line drawings printed on Abbey Pure Paper
  • Limitation spread blocked in gold foil on Freelife Merida Graphite paper. Etching printed in St. Petersburg on Echt-Bütten Ingres mould-made paper under the supervision of the artist; signed an numbered by the artist and tipped in by hand
  • Bound in full goatskin leather, blocked in gold foil on front and spine. Front board blocked in black foil with a silhouette of the Count. Gilded top edge. Ribbon Marker
  • Introduction by Sir John Mortimer
  • Book size: 10″x6 3/4″. Presented in a slipcase.

Alexandre Dumas père does not need an itroduction. The contemporary  of Victor Hugo has immortalised himself, above all, with his masterpieces ‘The Count of Monte Cristo’, and ‘The Three Musketeers’. For the bicentinary of his birth in 2002 he was interred in the Pantheon in Paris. Dumas is world literature and ‘The Count of Monte Cristo’ a landmark novel.
