William Golding (1987) ‘Close Quarters’, UK first edition, first printing, published by Faber and Faber. Signed on the front free endpaper (ffep) without further inscriptions.

Condition: very good plus book with a few rusty spots on the page block edges. Very good jacket with a tear at the back.

‘Close Quarters’ was the Nobel Prize winner’s 12th novel, and the second volume in the ‘To the Ends of the Earth’ trilogy which commenced in 1980 with ‘Rites of Passage’ for which Golding was awarded the Booker Prize. The trilogy was concluded in 1989 with ‘Fire Down Below’. The trilogy was adapted by the BBC in 2005 starring Benedict Cumberbatch.
