Helene Hanff (1971) ‘84, Charing Cross Roas‘, UK first edition, first printing, published by Andre Deutsch. Signed and beautifully inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper: “For Robin Taylor – with distressd apologies for not getting to meet you, and not seeing “Saturday, Sunday, Monday” – having been stuck in a cave at the BBC from 10am to 10pm every damn day, Cheers – Helene Hanff.
Accompanied by two original handwritten letters by Hanff to Robin Taylor dated May and November 1975 resepctively. The first letter mentions the 1975 BBC TV-adaptation of 84 Charing Cross Road and compliments the actor Frank Finlay. Hanff state that she would love to meet Taylor. The second letter states regret for not having met Taylor and further discusses the ‘84′ adaptation.
Condition: a near fine book with minimal shelf wear in a near fine dust jacket which is NOT price clipped and the correct first state wrapper.
84 Charing Cross Road has been adapted several times, in 1975 by the BBC for TV, in 1976 for a BBC drama radio show as well as the 1987 film starring Anthony Hopkins and Anne Bancroft.
