Stephen King (1978) ‘Night Shift‘, US first edition, first printing, published by Doubleday. Signed and inscribed by King on the ffep: “For Dave – | Hope you enjoyed these one – | reel horror movies, – Best wishes | Stephen King | 5/3/91”. Housed in a red solander box for protection.
All first issue points present: ‘First Edition’ on the copyright page as well as the correct gutter code S52 on page 336. Jacket priced at $8.95.
Condition: Fine and practically mint. An unread copy, all is tight and square, no previous owner’s scribbles. Page block white like snow, no foxing anywhere, no lean, no rubbing, no bumping. The lettering on the spine is fresh and vibrant. The dust jacket is fine as with no issues to speak of. No chipping, no tears. One of the best condition copies to come on the market for a long time. Only approximately 12,000 first edition copies were printed (even ‘Carrie’ King’s first book, ‘Salem’s Lot’ and ‘The Shining’ had larger first print runs) making this one of the scarcest King first edition books to find especially in this beautiful condition. Overall ‘Night Shift’ was King’s fifth book and the first anthology containing many short stories later adapted for TV and cinema.
Nominated for the 1979 World Fantasy and Locus Award.
