Henry Kissinger (1979) ‘The White House Years‘, UK first edition, first printing, published by George Weidenfeld and Nicolson. Signed and inscribed by Kissinger to Lord Peter Carrington who served as the British Foreign Secretary (1979 – 82): “To Peter Carrington: with the high regard of his friend Henry Kissinger”. The book features Lord Carrington’s bookplate on the ffep which cements the provenance further.

Condition: This book has been re-bound in navy blue Chieftan goatskin leather by Lyra’s Books in January 2020. All 3 page edges have been hand gilded with genuine gold and the book contains 2 silk marker ribbons. There are blue and gold endbands to the head and tail of the book. On the spine, there are 5 raised bands with hand tooled gold lines either side. The author’s name and title have been recreated between these bands. On the front board Kissinger‘s signature has been stamped in gold foil and there are hand tooled ‘blind’ lines framing both the front and back boards of the book. Endpapers are hand marbled paper, supplied by master marbler Jemma Lewis (UK).

The book comes in a custom made solander box. The outside of which has been covered in navy blue buckram with the signature, title and author stamped in gold. The trays have been covered in a navy blue book cloth and both trays have been lined with the same marbled paper as used for the endpapers in the book.

Henry Kissinger (born in 1923) served as the 56th US Secretary of State between 1971 and 1977 under Presidents Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford. Between 1969 and 1975 he was also the US National Security Advisor. As a writer, he published three memoirs, as well as Dimplomacy (1994), a book that is being used in undergraduate courses on the art of diplomacy and International Relations. Kissinger received the 1973 Nobel Peace Prize, one of the most controversial decisions in the history of the prize.

Lord Peter Carrington (1919-2018) served as British Defense Secretary (1970 – 1974), Foreign Secretary (1979 to 1982), and as Secretaty General of NATO (1984 to 1988).

A wonderful association between two colleagues and contemporaries who both shaped much of the course of the second half of 20th century world affairs. The luxurious binding makes this book highly desirable.
