Milne, Alan Alexander (1928) ‘The House at Pooh Corner’, UK signed limited edition and Ernest Shepard’s personal copy!

Alan Alexander Milne (1928) ‘The House at Pooh Corner‘, UK signed limited edition. Hand-made paper issue, limited to 350 copies, of which this is Ernest H. Shepard’s personal copy presented to him on the limitation page. Signed by author A.A. Milne and Ernest H. Shepard.

Condition: the book is exceptionally clean. The boards are not bumped and clean with just two foxing spots on the front label, and the rear top left corner faintly discoloured. The page block edges are clean. Top edge a little dusty. The paper is unopened and the volume unread. The paste downs display the typical ghosting where the jacket’s flap is touching the paper. The dust jacket published with this volume is quite fragile and much thinner than the dust jackets produced for the much smaller first trade edition. Hence, the dust jacket is good only with some edgewear including a chip at the top spine. The folds of the flap are split about two-third from the bottom as seen in our images. The spine is discoloured, but the panels have retained their original blue tinge and are clean. Overall a near fine book in a good dust jacket.

‘The House at Pooh Corner’ was the last of four books featuring the honey loving bear ‘Winnie-the-Pooh’. One of the most memorable and loved children books which has stood the test of time and still entertains children around the globe at the daily reading by parents to kids before bedtime. What makes our copy unique is the fact that this is a presentation copy to Ernest H. Shepard, the legendary illustrator of the seminal series.
