Philip Pullman (1986) ‘The Shadow in the Plate’, UK first edition, first printing, published by Oxford University Press. Signed on the title page without further inscriptions. Signed to us in person at a literature event in Oxford. This is the scarce second volume in the Sally Lockhart Quartet. Only 1,000 copies were printed of which the vast majority ended up in libraries.

Condition: near fine. This is not an ex-libris copy. There are no library stamps, no previous owner’s inscriptions of any sorts. The boards’ corners are sharp. Clean throughout. Top page block edges are a bit dusty and yellowed as the cheap paper used ages quickly with oxygen. The dust jacket is not price clipped. There is a short tear (about 5mm to one of the folds). A rare gem in this condition.
