Rushdie, Salman (1988) ‘Satanic Verses’, UK signed proof with rare proof dust jacket
Salman Rushdie (1988) ‘The Satanic Verses‘, uncorrected proof copy, published in the UK by Viking. Signed by Rushdie on the title page where he also added ‘The Satanic Verses’ to the title page which lacks the title. The books comes together with the exceptionally scarce proof dust jacket. Also included is the event ticket where Salman signed the book for us.
Condition: near fine and unread. The spine is unbroken. Slight shelf wear, and slight toning to page block commensurate with age as pictured. The proof dust jacket is near fine as well. It is folded a little imprecise otherwise practically a fine specimen. This paperback proof copy that precedes all other editions. Scarce to find in that condition, with the wrapper and signed with such a great ‘Satanic Verses’ inscription.
Rushdie won the Booker Prize in 1981 for ‘Midnight’s Childen’. The ‘Satanic Verses’ was shortlisted for the Booker in 1988. A landmark book that forced Salman into hiding for years.
