Wyndham, John (1951) ‘The Day of the Triffids’, UK signed and inscribed first edition association copy
John Wyndham (1951) ‘The Day of the Triffids‘, UK first edition, first printing, published by Michael Joseph. Signed and inscribed by Wyndham to his American agent, firend and fellow sci-fi writer Frederik Pohl: “To Fred: | first & most excellent midwife in this matter, | from John Wyndham (with John Beynon Harris endorsing.) | August 1951.”
Condition: a fine and unread copy in a near fine dust jacket.
‘Day of the Triffids’ is a classic of British science fiction. It reignited Wyndham’s career after WWII. The book was adapted several times. As a movie in 1963, a TV BBC production from 1981, another BBC adaptation in 2009, as well as several radio adaptations. John Wyndham was a very reclusive writer, never gave any interviews, and did not attend any signing events or similar. As a result, signed copies of his work are exceptionally scarce. We recommend the BBC documentary ‘John Wyndham – the Invisible Man of Science Fiction’.
